Comprehensive inspections are always advised before a major purchase. Boats are no different. No matter if it is new or used, pre-purchase surveys can help avoid disaster.

Appraisal Inspection

This inspection is performed to gather enough information to justify or determine the market value of the vessel. This is normally needed for financing, estate settlements, donations, etc.  

Insurance Inspection

This inspection, commonly called a Condition and Value or C and V, is performed so that the insurance company can determine whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk. They are interested in structural integrity and safety for its intended use. Most insurance companies require a survey on older boats. They will also want to know the vessel's market value and replacement cost. 

Accident Investigation

This inspection requires access to all information and parties involved. A thorough examination of the vessel and the scene is done to attempt to ascertain the cause and extent of the damage to the vessel as well as the circumstances by which the incident occurred.
